2005 Paddling Pirates

The Team
The team is composed of members of the Alamo Fly Fishers from San Antonio. Last year the Paddling Pirates won 2nd Place in the team category (using 100% flies) and Amancio Cantu won the big prize, the slam category. This year the original 5 are joined by 3 more Pirates.

Doug Slick: Senior member of the Alamo Fly Fishers. You hate to fish side by side of him because he will out fish you 4 to 1. Last year was his first slump ever fishing at the coast. This year the odds are in his favor.
Steve Flanagan: Born and raised in Rockport but now lives in SA. Has forgotten more secret spots that you will ever know. Home field advantage is his and we know what that means.
Amancio Cantu: He is the reigning champion from last year (that's why he is smiling in the picture). His motto is "I'd rather be lucky than good" and proved it by winning the big enchilada. Expect Vegas to carry odds on him.
Todd Fleming: No longer a rookie. Watch out because he picked up so much in the last couple of years that he straightened the learning curve.
Lefty Ray Chapa: Fishing guide and fly casting instructor. Possesses left-handed abilities far beyond most mortal men.
Lloyd Mathews: Fishes places no one has heard of (but within 50 miles of the contest range) so do not expect to see his Tequila Sunrise kayak anytime soon.
Joe Filer: The cold weather specialist. October may bring nasty weather so he prepared by fishing Alaska this summer.
Lynn Lennox: The wild card. Every team has one and perhaps the prescription for success.
